HUGO BARATA

Hugo Barata é artista visual, mediador educativo e curador independente. Expõe o seu trabalho desde o início dos anos dois mil, tendo realizado e participado em diversas exposições individuais e coletivas. Está presente em coleções particulares e públicas. A sua prática artística recente define-se como transmedia e assenta na investigação da memória coletiva a partir de ressonâncias e narrativas históricas, explorando a representação e a análise do conceito de espaço e a prática da pintura como meio operativo deslocado. O seu trabalho consiste em desenho, colagem, instalação, vídeo, filme, e pintura. A sua presente investigação em Mestrado refere-se ao conceito de Vazio nas práticas artísticas modernas e contemporâneas. O seu trabalho como curador independente tem sido produzido em instituições museológicas de relevo e plataformas alternativas. Atualmente é Curador Associado da exposição “A Visão Encorporada – performance para a câmera”, no MNAC – Museu do Chiado.
Tem também vindo a desenvolver um trabalho extenso e de profundidade na mediação cultural e na educação artística. Participa na edição deste ano do projeto inovador 10x10, Programa Gulbenkian Educação para a Cultura e Ciência, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.

Born in Lisbon, where he currently lives and works. In the mid-nineties, before joining the college, completed the courses of Aesthetic Themes and Theories Contemporary Art at the National Society of Fine Arts, and also the 1st Free Course of Art History at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He graduated in Painting from Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon. He is a Post Graduate in Painting from FBAUL, currently completing his Masters degree at the same institution.
He has been exhibiting his work since the early two thousand, having participated regularly in solo and group exhibitions. His work is developed mainly in the areas of painting, sculpture and video, and is included in many private and institutional collections. It has also developed projects in the area of independent curating in museum institutions and on alternative platforms, namely the exhibitions Observers: Revelations, Transits and Distances in the Berardo Collection Museum, 2011, and also She is a Femme Fatale # 1 on Berardo Collection Museum, 2010, and She is a Femme Fatale # 2, in the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, 2009. In 2011 he organizes and takes part in the exhibition A New Idea Is Declined Forcefully With An Unprecedented Definition, Plataforma Revolver, Transboavista Building, Lisbon. In 2012 curates and takes part in the exhibition The Age of Divinity, Plataforma Revolver, Transboavista Building, Lisbon. He’s currently been selected with the curatorial project CURANTING THE DOMESTIC – images at home, to be Associated Project in the Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2013, and he’s also the Associated Curator of the exhibition The Embodied Vision – performance for the camera, currently showing at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, MNAC, Lisbon.
